Moore County Road Construction Updates from NCDOT Impact Daily Commute

Drivers across Moore County can expect major changes as the North Carolina Department of Transportation moves forward with several large road projects. These Moore County road construction updates NCDOT plans aim to improve traffic flow and support future growth in the Sandhills.

Major Road Projects Underway in Moore County

Key projects include widening N.C. 5, as well as improvements along U.S. 1 and U.S. 15-501. The work is designed to reduce congestion, improve safety, and accommodate increasing traffic across Southern Pines, Aberdeen, and Pinehurst.

Construction crews are currently focused on early phases such as utility relocation, grading, and drainage installation.

What Drivers Should Expect

As work continues, drivers should be prepared for overnight lane closures and traffic pattern changes. Officials say most closures will happen during off-peak hours to minimize disruptions.

The Moore County road construction updates NCDOT projects also include new traffic signals, redesigned intersections, and multi-use paths for pedestrians and cyclists.

Long-Term Improvements for the Sandhills

Many of the projects are scheduled for completion between 2027 and 2028, with improvements timed ahead of major events expected in the region. These updates are part of a broader effort to prepare Moore County for continued growth.
