The Marcus Mason House Fire remains under investigation after an overnight fire in Sanford claimed the life of Lee County Board of Education member Marcus Phillip Mason. Emergency crews were called to a home on Summerset Place around 2:35 a.m. Wednesday, where firefighters later found Mason deceased inside the residence.
The Sanford Police Department identified Mason, 59, as the victim. Authorities have not released the cause of the fire, and investigators with both the Sanford Police Department and Sanford Fire Department are continuing to review what happened.
