Kristen Metzbrown DAISY Award Moore Regional Hospital recognition is shining a spotlight on compassionate care in the Sandhills. The Pinehurst emergency department nurse has been honored by FirstHealth of the Carolinas for going above and beyond for patients and families during high-stress medical situations.
Metzbrown, a registered nurse at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses — a national honor that celebrates nurses who exemplify clinical excellence and compassionate care.
Family Nomination Highlights Compassionate Care
The Kristen Metzbrown DAISY Award Moore Regional Hospital recognition was prompted by a heartfelt nomination from the mother of a patient treated in the emergency department last fall.
The parent described Metzbrown as calm, organized and reassuring during what she called a very stressful situation. According to the nomination, the nurse created a sense of control and confidence from the moment the family arrived.
“From the moment we arrived, Kristen set the tone for a calm, controlled and organized response,” the parent wrote. “She communicated clearly and made sure our family understood what was going on.”
The nomination also praised Metzbrown’s ability to manage the fast-paced emergency environment while still making time to check on patient comfort and family needs.

Hospital leadership says the Kristen Metzbrown DAISY Award Moore Regional Hospital honor reflects what colleagues see every day.
Mekel Bergschneider, administrative director of the emergency department, said Metzbrown consistently demonstrates compassion in action, even during the busiest shifts.
“No matter how chaotic the environment is, she remains calm, approachable and focused on making others feel cared for and supported,” Bergschneider said. “Her kindness toward patients, families and coworkers alike reflects the very best of nursing.”
About the DAISY Award
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was created by the DAISY Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in California. The program honors the memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 from complications of an autoimmune disease.
Today, more than 2,800 health care facilities across all 50 states and 17 countries participate in the DAISY Award program, recognizing nurses who make a profound difference in the lives of patients and families.
