Josh Ellis BEE Award Moore Regional Honors Pinehurst Technician

A healthcare worker in the Sandhills is being recognized for extraordinary service after stepping up during a critical patient situation at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

FirstHealth of the Carolinas recently honored Josh Ellis with the BEE Award, recognizing his work inside the blood bank at Moore Regional Hospital. The Josh Ellis BEE Award Moore Regional recognition highlights employees who go above and beyond in patient care and support services.

Ellis works as a medical laboratory technician, helping manage blood products and ensuring safe transfusions for patients across the hospital system. According to FirstHealth, Ellis quickly responded during a critical care situation involving a patient transport that required emergency blood access.

Rapid Response Helped Prevent Delays

A nurse manager from the hospital’s critical care unit nominated Ellis after his quick work helped prevent treatment delays for a patient needing a specialized radiation procedure.

According to the nomination, Ellis prepared and cross-matched blood units in less than an hour while also organizing a specialized transport cooler. That preparation allowed the medical team to travel with emergency blood products ready if complications occurred during treatment.

The Josh Ellis BEE Award Moore Regional recognition shines a light on the behind-the-scenes hospital employees many patients never meet but who play a critical role in healthcare every day.

Medical laboratory technicians help process blood work, maintain safety standards and prepare blood products including plasma, platelets and red blood cells.

Recognized for Leadership and Innovation

Hospital leaders say this is not the first time Ellis has been recognized for outstanding service. Stephanie Ladner, assistant lab director for the blood bank, said Ellis previously received recognition for his work during a trauma event several years ago.

According to Ladner, Ellis is known for finding smarter and more efficient ways to improve operations while maintaining patient safety and quality care standards.

Healthcare systems across Moore County and the Sandhills continue highlighting employees who demonstrate compassion and professionalism during high-pressure situations.

The BEE Award is designed to recognize non-nursing healthcare professionals who support patient care throughout the hospital system. It serves as a companion recognition program to the DAISY Award for nurses.

The Josh Ellis BEE Award Moore Regional announcement comes as hospitals across North Carolina continue emphasizing employee retention, patient safety and high-quality care.

FirstHealth of the Carolinas operates multiple healthcare facilities across the Sandhills region, including Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
