An Aberdeen man has been charged with murder more than four months after two men were found dead inside a Jackson Hamlet residence.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office announced that 38-year-old Vincent Earl McCrae was arrested Aug. 5 and charged with murder in connection with the death of 43-year-old Jamar Brooks Hailey of Aberdeen.
Investigation Began After March Shooting
The investigation began March 29 when authorities responded to a residence in the 100 block of Gaines Street in the Jackson Hamlet community.
Deputies found Hailey and 41-year-old Antonio Jamal Brown of Raeford dead at the residence. The incident was investigated as a double homicide, prompting a lengthy investigation by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities have charged McCrae with murder in connection with Hailey’s death. Investigators said they are still waiting for additional forensic evidence before making a final determination concerning the circumstances surrounding Brown’s death.
The investigation into both deaths remains active.
Suspect Located in Fayetteville
McCrae was located in Fayetteville and taken into custody without incident, according to the sheriff’s office. The U.S. Marshals Service and Fayetteville Police Department assisted with the arrest.
Authorities said McCrae also had several outstanding orders for arrest for failing to appear in court on previous felony drug charges. Those cases reportedly included allegations involving methamphetamine, heroin, prescription medications, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The sheriff’s office also said McCrae was wanted for an alleged violation of the terms of his federal supervision. He is being held under a federal detainer.
McCrae Held Without Bond on Murder Charge
McCrae received a $600,000 secured bond on the outstanding failure-to-appear matters. He is being held without bond on the murder charge.
His next scheduled appearance in Moore County District Court is Aug. 12.
