A Fayetteville organization is helping blind and visually impaired residents overcome transportation and accessibility challenges as North Carolina’s early-voting period continues.

The Vision Resource Center helped 10 people cast their ballots Tuesday, according to ABC11. Among them was Fayetteville resident Thomas Bass, who has been voting for more than 20 years.

Highlighting accessible voting

Bass said transportation, changing technology and inconsistent accessibility can make voting more difficult for people with limited or no vision. The Vision Resource Center provides transportation and can help voters navigate the process while following election-assistance requirements.

North Carolina voters who require assistance because of a disability may receive help at the polls. Bass said he hopes his experience encourages other residents to participate and reminds voters that their voices matter.
