Drivers in Sanford should prepare for a temporary closure at the intersection of Charlotte Avenue and First Street.
The closure is expected to begin early in the week of August 17 and remain in place for approximately two weeks. Crews will construct a manhole and connect new sewer lines in the area.

Detours Around the Construction
First Street and the Pilgrim’s Sanford Agricultural Marketplace will remain accessible during construction.
- Drivers approaching from the east will be directed to Midland Avenue.
- Drivers approaching from the west can use Chisholm Street from Hawkins Avenue.
Motorists should watch for posted detour signs, reduce their speed around the work zone and allow additional travel time.
Part of Larger Sewer Project
The work is part of TriRiver Water’s continuing sewer-rehabilitation project in East Sanford.
The larger project will replace approximately 5,500 feet of 12-inch sewer line with a new 18-inch line. The improvements are intended to increase capacity and improve the efficiency of the wastewater system.
The overall rehabilitation project is expected to continue into the spring of 2027.
