Drivers traveling through Hoke County should prepare for a road closure and detour beginning Monday as construction continues along N.C. 211.
Contractors working for the North Carolina Department of Transportation are scheduled to close Army Road near its intersection with N.C. 211 beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, August 3.
The closure is expected to remain in place for approximately two months.
Why Army Road Is Closing
The temporary closure will allow crews to construct a new eastbound lane on N.C. 211 and complete upgrades at the Army Road intersection.
The work is part of the ongoing project to widen N.C. 211 through portions of Moore and Hoke counties. The larger project is intended to improve traffic movement and accommodate continued growth along the corridor between the Aberdeen area and Raeford.
Construction projects of this size frequently require temporary closures so crews can safely complete grading, paving, drainage and intersection work without moving traffic through the immediate work zone.
Detour Uses Montrose and Calloway Roads
While Army Road is closed, motorists will be directed to use Montrose Road and Calloway Road as the designated detour.
Drivers who regularly use Army Road should allow additional travel time, particularly during the morning and afternoon commuting periods. Traffic may also be heavier than normal along the posted detour route as vehicles are redirected around the construction area.
Motorists should watch for detour signs, construction equipment and possible changes in traffic patterns near N.C. 211.
Residents and businesses located near the construction zone may also experience temporary access adjustments as the project advances.

NCDOT officials said additional closures and detours will be necessary during later stages of the N.C. 211 widening project.
