The Country Club of North Carolina has selected noted golf-course architect Andrew Green to lead a major renovation of its Cardinal Course.
Construction is expected to begin in fall 2028, with the renovated course scheduled to reopen in fall 2029. McDonald & Sons Golf Course Builders has been selected to complete the construction work.
The Cardinal Course began as a nine-hole layout designed by Willard Byrd in 1970. Nine additional holes were added under Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1981, and the course’s most recent renovation was completed by Arthur Hills in 2001.
Green’s previous projects include renovations at Congressional Country Club, Oak Hill, Inverness and East Lake. CCNC officials say the updated Cardinal Course could strengthen the club’s ability to host high-level golf competitions.
Additional design work will be completed before construction begins.
