ABERDEEN, N.C. — A West End man has been arrested in connection with an Aberdeen shooting that left a Pinebluff man critically injured.
Aberdeen Police arrested 43-year-old Raheem Mahad Ewing on Monday, August 10. Ewing faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a felon.
The Aberdeen shooting arrest followed a five-day search involving local and state law enforcement agencies.
Shooting Reported at Woodlawn Apartments
Aberdeen Police officers were dispatched to Woodlawn Apartments on Magnolia Drive at approximately 8:16 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, after receiving reports of gunfire.
While officers were traveling to the apartment complex, emergency dispatchers received another call reporting that a person was lying on the ground and calling for help.
Officers arrived and found a 39-year-old Pinebluff man suffering from two gunshot wounds. Police said the man had been shot in the chest and shoulder.
First responders provided emergency medical treatment before the victim was airlifted to an area trauma center. He was last reported in critical condition.
Police Describe Shooting as Isolated Incident
Investigators identified Ewing as a suspect following the shooting. Multiple agencies assisted in the search, including the Aberdeen Police Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
Police have described the shooting as an isolated incident. Authorities have not publicly released information about what may have led to the confrontation.
The Aberdeen shooting arrest was announced August 10. Police have not released additional information about the victim’s current medical condition or whether additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
