The Aberdeen Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying an individual connected to a reported larceny and fraud incident at PetSmart.
According to police, the incident happened on August 2, 2026, when a man entered the store and selected a robotic cat litter box valued at approximately $700.
Police Describe Unusual Checkout Encounter
Investigators said the man approached the checkout desk and convinced a sales associate that he wanted to return the litter box. He then reportedly changed his mind and said he would keep the item.
Police allege that the individual subsequently left the business with the robotic litter box without making any attempt to pay for it.
The Aberdeen Police Department released photographs of the person it is seeking to identify. The man was wearing a ball cap and medical face mask, making his facial features difficult to see clearly.
Aberdeen Police Ask for Public’s Help
Despite the limited view of the individual, investigators hope someone may recognize his clothing, appearance or other identifying features.

The case is being investigated by Officer Schleifer under incident number 260820356.
The individual pictured by police has not been identified publicly. All allegations remain under investigation unless and until charges are filed and proven in court.
