The Aberdeen Lake pedestrian bridge repair is finally moving closer to construction after the Town of Aberdeen received nearly all of the federal funding requested to recover from damage caused by Tropical Storm Chantal. The bridge has remained one of the most noticeable unfinished recovery projects around Aberdeen Lake, but town leaders say repairs are now within sight.
Bridge Repairs Could Begin Soon
Town officials have finalized much of the planning work and expect to begin accepting contractor bids within the next six to eight weeks. Because the bridge requires specialized equipment, including floating platforms and pile-driving equipment, only a limited number of contractors are qualified to perform the work.
The pedestrian bridge connects portions of the popular walking trail surrounding Aberdeen Lake, making it an important feature for residents who regularly use the park for walking, jogging and outdoor recreation.
Storm Recovery Continues Across Aberdeen
The bridge project is just one part of Aberdeen’s larger recovery effort. Town officials say approximately $2.25 million in FEMA funding has been obligated to help repair infrastructure damaged during Tropical Storm Chantal.
Recent improvements already completed include repairs to the playground area, resurfacing portions of the parking lot, replacing washed-out roadway sections and installing new benches and a gazebo at Aberdeen Lake Park.
Much of the recently approved federal funding will also pay for repairs to damaged water and sewer infrastructure, helping restore essential public services while reducing the financial burden on local taxpayers.
A Popular Community Destination
Aberdeen Lake Park remains one of the community’s most visited outdoor destinations in Moore County. While most of the park has already reopened, completing the Aberdeen Lake pedestrian bridge repair will reconnect the full walking trail and complete another major milestone in the town’s recovery.
Town leaders remain optimistic that construction costs will remain within budget and that qualified contractors will respond once bids are advertised later this summer.
