Some low-income Moore County homeowners may qualify for assistance with critical repairs through the Essential Single Family Rehabilitation Program.
Eligible work can include roof, electrical, plumbing and HVAC repairs or replacements, along with accessibility improvements. The owner or a household member must generally be at least 62, disabled or a veteran. Certain homes with lead hazards and a child younger than six may also qualify.
Assistance is structured as a zero-interest loan secured by a lien on the property. No payments are required while the homeowner remains in the home, and the balance is forgiven at $14,000 per year.
Applications are available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the Sandhills Community Action Program office, 340 Commerce Avenue in Southern Pines. Call 910-947-5675, extension 101, for details.
