FirstHealth Launches Virtual Primary Care for North Carolina Adults

FirstHealth of the Carolinas has launched a Virtual Primary Care program designed to give busy adults convenient access to an established health care provider from home.

Unlike virtual services intended only for immediate illnesses, the new program is designed to create an ongoing relationship between patients and a dedicated primary-care provider.

Care through MyChart

Patients meet with their provider through secure video appointments using the FirstHealth MyChart platform on a smartphone, tablet or computer.

Services include annual wellness care, preventive-screening recommendations, management of everyday health needs and referrals to specialists across the FirstHealth system.

The program could be particularly useful for working adults, people who do not currently have an established primary-care provider and patients who are comfortable receiving care through video appointments.

Who can participate?

Patients must be physically located in North Carolina during each appointment. They also need reliable internet access and must be able to travel to a FirstHealth location if an in-person evaluation becomes necessary.

For non-emergency needs requiring an office visit, virtual-care providers will offer scheduled in-person availability once each month at FirstHealth Family Medicine in Whispering Pines.

FirstHealth says the program accepts insurance. Patients with complicated medical histories requiring frequent in-person care may be better served by a traditional office-based practice.
