A Jackson Springs man faces three felony charges following an undercover investigation involving alleged criminal activity with a minor, according to the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities identified the defendant as 21-year-old Paulino Delgado Vargas.
Investigation began with information from another agency
Sheriff’s investigators assigned to the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force began investigating after receiving information from an out-of-state law-enforcement agency about a possible Jackson Springs resident involved in criminal activity concerning a minor.
Forensic specialists executed a search warrant Thursday, October 1, at Vargas’ residence in the Foxfire area of Moore County.
Three felony charges filed
Vargas was charged with two counts of felony indecent liberties with a child. Authorities said a stolen firearm was also found in his possession during the arrest, resulting in an additional charge of felony possession of a stolen firearm.
Vargas was held without bond on the indecent-liberties charges and received a $5,500 secured bond on the firearm charge. His next Moore County District Court appearance is scheduled for October 21.
The charges are allegations. Vargas is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
