A large Disney-branded residential community is beginning to take shape near Pittsboro, bringing thousands of planned homes and Disney-designed amenities to Chatham County.
Known as Asteria, the approximately 1,500-acre development is located east of downtown Pittsboro within the larger Chatham Park community. Plans call for more than 4,000 residential units, including single-family homes, duplexes, condominiums and apartments. Some homes and amenities will be reserved for adults 55 and older.
Disney expects home sales to begin in the fall of 2027, with the first residents arriving in the fall of 2028. Home prices and participating builders have not yet been publicly announced.
A Community, Not a Theme Park
Despite the Disney name, Asteria will not be a theme park or tourist attraction. It is the company’s second Storyliving by Disney residential community, following Cotino in California.
Asteria will be branded and managed by Disney, but Disney is not directly developing, building or selling the homes. DMB Development is leading the project, while independent homebuilders will construct and sell the residences.
The first phase is expected to include a sales center, model-home village, community parks, trails and an initial release of approximately 300 home sites.
Disney-Designed Amenities
The social centerpiece of Asteria will be the private Second Star Club, designed by Walt Disney Imagineering with inspiration from North Carolina’s Piedmont region and subtle references to Disney stories.
Plans include a central gathering lawn called Aster Green, a two-story restaurant, an event pavilion, creative studios, a wellness center and a lodge for residents 55 and older. Additional amenities include adult and family swimming pools, a playground, tennis courts and pickleball courts.
A five-bedroom, Peter Pan-inspired residence called Lost Key Cottage is also planned. Club members will be able to reserve the cottage for overnight stays, family gatherings and celebrations.
Membership in the Second Star Club will require approval and the payment of dues and fees. Certain experiences and facility rentals will cost extra.
A New Entrance Takes Shape
Disney’s latest project update revealed the concept for Asteria’s entrance. The design features stone gathered from the property and a dry-stacked “moon gate” arch extending over the sidewalk, creating what developers describe as a warm Carolina welcome.
Construction on Asteria began in June 2025. Additional information about builders, home designs and pricing is expected as the planned 2027 sales launch approaches.
