Hoke County Sheriff Investigates Reported Abduction and Assault

The Hoke County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported abduction and assault that left a woman injured near Raeford.

Deputies responded Saturday morning, September 12, to the intersection of Oakdale Gin Road and Scott Currie Road. When officers arrived, they found a woman lying in the grass along the roadway.

The woman told investigators she had been walking along Oakdale Gin Road at approximately 8 a.m. when a dark-colored van stopped beside her. She reported that a man pulled her into the back of the vehicle while another man was driving.

According to the woman’s account, she was punched near one eye and assaulted with a knife before being released near a cemetery. Emergency personnel transported her to a hospital for treatment of injuries described as minor.

Investigation Remains Active

The Hoke County Sheriff’s Office said investigators currently believe the incident was isolated and that there is no immediate threat to the general public. No arrests or descriptions of the two men have been released.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen a dark blue or black van in the area Saturday morning—or who has other information that could help the investigation—to contact the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office at 910-875-5111.
