Woman Dies in Jackson Hamlet House Fire

JACKSON HAMLET, N.C. — A woman died Sunday morning after a fire destroyed a home in the Jackson Hamlet community near Pinehurst.

The fire occurred at a residence on Arnette Street, located off N.C. Highway 5. Three people were reportedly inside the home when the fire began. Two occupants escaped safely and attempted to reenter the burning residence to rescue the woman who remained inside.

Multiple fire departments from across southern Moore County responded to the scene. Firefighters encountered extreme heat and heavy flames while working to bring the fire under control.

A witness informed firefighters that an occupant could still be inside the home. Emergency crews later located the woman deceased inside the residence.

The Village of Pinehurst extended its condolences to the victim’s family, loved ones and the Jackson Hamlet community.

Responding agencies included the Pinehurst, Aberdeen, Eastwood, Fort Bragg, West End and Seven Lakes fire departments. Moore County EMS and the Moore County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.

The residence was declared a total loss. The Moore County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
