PINEBLUFF, N.C. — Pinebluff Lake is temporarily closed to swimming and other recreational activities while officials conduct bacterial testing of the water.
The Town of Pinebluff announced the precautionary closure after the Moore County Health Department contacted town officials about concerns residents raised regarding the lake’s appearance.
No specific contamination or public health hazard has been confirmed. Town officials emphasized that the closure is being implemented out of an abundance of caution while testing is completed.
“This closure is purely precautionary and does not indicate that any health hazard has been confirmed,” the town said in its public notice.
Recreational Activities Temporarily Suspended
Residents and visitors should avoid swimming and other recreational activities at Pinebluff Lake until the town announces that the water has been cleared for public use.
Town officials have not provided an estimated reopening date. The closure is expected to remain in place until bacterial test results confirm that the water is safe for recreational activity.
The town said it will release additional information as test results and recommendations become available.
What Bacterial Testing Determines
Water-quality testing can identify bacteria that may indicate contamination or conditions capable of causing illness. Officials may also consider the recent appearance of the water, environmental conditions and reports submitted by people who have visited the lake.
The decision to conduct testing does not mean harmful bacteria have been discovered. Testing is being used to determine whether a health risk exists and whether additional action is necessary.
Until those results are available, residents should follow the closure notice and keep children and pets from entering the water.
Town Promises Updates
Pinebluff officials thanked residents for their cooperation while the testing process continues.
“We are committed to providing timely updates and reopening the lake for recreational use as soon as it is safe to do so,” the town said.
Pinebluff Lake is a popular community recreation area used for swimming, fishing and outdoor gatherings. The temporary closure comes near the end of the summer recreation season, making timely test results especially important to residents.
Anyone planning to visit the lake should check for updated notices from the Town of Pinebluff before participating in water-related activities.
This story will be updated when bacterial test results are released or the town changes the lake’s operational status.
