Panthers Win Thriller as Wyndham, Braves and NASCAR Take Center Stage

It was a dramatic night for the Carolina Panthers, while the Wyndham Championship produced plenty of low scores in Greensboro. The Atlanta Braves are also extending one of baseball’s hottest winning streaks, and NASCAR is preparing for a full weekend of racing at Iowa Speedway.

Panthers Win on Last-Second Touchdown

The Carolina Panthers opened their preseason schedule with a finish usually reserved for the regular season.

Quarterback Haynes King scrambled five yards and dove across the goal line as time expired, lifting Carolina to a 33–30 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame Game.

King completed an impressive performance with 180 passing yards and two touchdown passes. He also contributed 39 yards on the ground, including the game-winning score.

Starting quarterback Bryce Young did not play in the preseason opener. The coaching staff instead used the game to evaluate King and other players competing for roster positions.

Hossler Takes Early Wyndham Championship Lead

Beau Hossler set the early pace at the Wyndham Championship after firing a nine-under-par 61 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro.

The round gave Hossler a one-shot lead over Sahith Theegala and Ben James. Weather interrupted Thursday’s opening round, leaving 12 players unable to finish before play was suspended.

Those golfers will complete their opening rounds Friday morning before the second round gets underway. The Wyndham Championship is the final event of the PGA Tour’s regular season, making every shot important for players trying to improve their positions in the FedExCup standings.

Braves Extend Winning Streak to Eight Games

The Atlanta Braves completed a sweep of the Miami Marlins with an 11–3 victory, extending their season-best winning streak to eight games.

Ronald Acuña Jr. powered Atlanta’s offense by hitting two home runs. Matt Olson also went deep, launching his 32nd home run of the season.

The eight-game run has quickly turned Atlanta into one of the hottest teams in Major League Baseball. The Braves will look to carry that momentum into their next series as the second half of the season continues.

NASCAR Arrives at Iowa Speedway

NASCAR’s weekend at Iowa Speedway begins Friday night with the ARCA race.

The action continues with a national-series race Saturday at 5 p.m. The weekend concludes Sunday afternoon with the Iowa Corn 350 for the NASCAR Cup Series, scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.

The short track is expected to produce close racing as drivers continue battling for position in the championship standings.
