Three people were killed and a fourth was hospitalized following a Caswell County family shooting Wednesday morning in the Prospect Hill community.
The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened before 8 a.m. at a home on Brooks Road. One person with a gunshot wound was transported to Duke University Hospital. The person’s condition had not been released in the initial update.
Sheriff Says Everyone Involved Was Related
Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden said everyone involved in the shooting belonged to the same family. Authorities also said the suspected shooter was among the three people who died.
The names of the people involved were not immediately released. Investigators had not publicly identified a motive or explained the circumstances leading to the shooting.
The sheriff said his office had no evidence of previous contact with the family concerning domestic issues.
No Continuing Threat to the Public
Authorities said there was no continuing threat to the public following the Caswell County family shooting.
Investigators from the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office were joined at the scene by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the State Highway Patrol. Additional information was expected as investigators continued their work and notified family members.
