Southern Pines Police are investigating a weekend shooting that left two men hospitalized after gunfire was reported near a private party.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 12:50 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, to the area of Rothney Avenue and Haines Court after the department received reports of shots being fired.
When officers from the Southern Pines Police Department’s Patrol and Investigations divisions arrived, they encountered a large crowd gathered near the location. Police said a private party had been taking place in the area before the shooting.
Victims Taken to Moore Regional Hospital
The two adult male victims had already been transported from the scene in private vehicles before officers arrived. They were taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital for treatment.
Southern Pines Deputy Police Chief Robert Heaton said both men suffered gunshot wounds that were considered non-life-threatening.
Investigators also responded to the hospital to interview the victims and gather additional information about what happened before the shooting.
Multiple Shell Casings Recovered
Detectives collected multiple shell casings from the area as evidence. Investigators are working to identify witnesses and determine who fired the shots.
No arrests had been announced in the department’s initial report. Police said there was no indication that the shooting represented an ongoing threat to the surrounding community.
The Southern Pines Police Department was assisted during the response by Southern Pines Fire and Rescue, Moore County EMS, the Aberdeen Police Department and the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.
