Data-Center Company Purchases More Than 400 Acres Near Hamlet

A company associated with data-center development has purchased more than 400 acres of land north of Hamlet, according to Richmond County property records.

County geographic information system records show Digital Hamlet LP purchased approximately 403.82 acres along County Home Road on Thursday, July 23.

The company is based in Texas and has been identified as a data-center company. The land purchase could represent a significant economic-development prospect for Richmond County, although detailed plans for the property have not been publicly announced.

Property Located North of Hamlet

The newly purchased property is located along County Home Road, north of the Hamlet city limits. County records provide confirmation of the transfer and the amount of land involved in the transaction.

A purchase of this size gives the company control of a large development site. However, a property transaction alone does not confirm when construction will begin, how the property will be used or the final size of any possible project.

No construction schedule, investment amount, employment estimate or information about potential tenants was included in the initial public reporting about the sale.

What Is Known About Digital Hamlet

The name of the purchasing company, Digital Hamlet LP, indicates a direct connection between the property and the Hamlet area. Public reporting identifies the buyer as a Texas-based company involved in data centers.

Data centers are specialized facilities that house computer servers, networking systems and other equipment used to store, process and distribute digital information. Large projects can require extensive access to electricity, telecommunications infrastructure, transportation routes and suitable industrial land.

Whether Digital Hamlet LP plans to build such a facility on the County Home Road property has not been formally detailed in a public project announcement.

Next Steps Remain Unclear

The land purchase is an early development indicator, but several questions remain unanswered.

Any major project could require reviews involving zoning, utilities, roads, environmental requirements or other local and state regulations. The specific approvals needed would depend on the company’s final plans and how the property is currently classified.

Local officials have not yet publicly announced an incentive agreement or construction timeline connected to the property purchase. There has also been no confirmed announcement regarding permanent jobs or temporary construction employment.

For residents, the transaction will likely draw attention because of the amount of land involved and the growing interest in data-center development across North Carolina and other parts of the country.

Until additional information is released by the company or Richmond County officials, the confirmed details remain limited to the sale recorded July 23, the approximately 403.82-acre property and the identity of the buyer.

Additional project details could emerge through future property filings, planning documents, permit applications or announcements from local economic-development officials.
