The Railhouse Brewery Southern Pines Expansion is officially underway as the veteran-owned brewery opens a brand-new taproom in downtown Southern Pines.
Railhouse Brewery: Penn Station opened Memorial Day weekend inside the former Southern Pines Brewing location at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Bennett Street.
Owner Chris Weber says the expansion allows Railhouse Brewery to reach a new customer base while staying connected to the local Sandhills community.
Why Railhouse Expanded Into Southern Pines
Weber says Southern Pines and Aberdeen may be geographically close, but they serve very different customer markets.
The Railhouse Brewery Southern Pines Expansion gives the company access to more foot traffic while also fitting naturally into the owner’s everyday life and connection to downtown Southern Pines.
Weber says the opportunity came together quickly after the previous tenant vacated the location earlier this year.
The new “Penn Station” name blends the building’s railroad-inspired atmosphere with its Pennsylvania Avenue address.
What Customers Can Expect
The new taproom will feature Railhouse Brewery favorites alongside wine, craft soda, cider, and future full-bar offerings.
One unique feature of the Railhouse Brewery Southern Pines Expansion will be exclusive rotating small-batch beers only available at the downtown location.
The brewery also plans to offer nitro-infused beverages, including its signature Vanilla Porter and non-alcoholic cold brew coffee from Aberdeen-based High Octane.
Customers will also notice train-themed décor inspired by historic Penn Station, along with artwork featuring hidden Moore County references.
Supporting Other Local Businesses
Although the taproom will not serve food, Weber encourages customers to support nearby restaurants by bringing takeout into the brewery.
The brewery plans to keep menus from local downtown Southern Pines restaurants available for customers to browse while enjoying drinks.
Live music performances are also planned, though the new location will maintain a slightly different atmosphere from Railhouse’s flagship Aberdeen brewery.
A Growing Presence in the Sandhills
The Railhouse Brewery Southern Pines Expansion continues the company’s growth after Weber became majority owner in early 2025.
Railhouse Brewery has built a strong following in Aberdeen and throughout Moore County thanks to its veteran-owned identity and strong community presence.
Weber says he plans to remain actively involved by bartending regularly and listening directly to customer feedback.
For residents in Southern Pines, Aberdeen, Pinehurst, and across the Sandhills, the new taproom adds another locally owned gathering space to the downtown scene.
