A new downtown Southern Pines redevelopment project is bringing fresh momentum to one of the town’s long-vacant buildings.

Druther Homes co-owners Joseph and Liz Druther recently purchased Broad Street Plaza, the former home of Hatchet Brewing Company, for $2 million. The property sits at the corner of Southwest Broad Street and West Illinois Avenue in downtown Southern Pines.

The building has remained vacant since Hatchet Brewing Company closed operations nearly six months ago.

New Plans for Downtown Southern Pines Redevelopment

According to Druther Homes, the company plans to renovate the middle section of the building into office space while leasing the street-facing portion to a future restaurant or consumer-focused business.

The goal is to increase foot traffic and bring additional community activity deeper into the downtown district.

Project leaders say the renovation plans remain flexible depending on the future tenant’s needs. Possible upgrades include kitchen build-outs, redesigned interior layouts, and a refreshed exterior appearance more in line with the growing downtown Southern Pines atmosphere.

Developers hope the property can eventually host community events and become a destination within the Sandhills region.

Growth Continues Across Southern Pines

The purchase reflects the continued growth and redevelopment happening across Southern Pines, Pinehurst, Aberdeen, and Moore County.

Druther Homes has become known locally for high-end custom home construction and renovation projects throughout the Sandhills.

Company owner Joseph Druther said the business focuses heavily on community relationships and long-term local investment.

The company also contributes a portion of home sale proceeds to the 7Figure Foundation, a nonprofit organization helping build homes for families in need internationally.

Construction on office renovations is expected to begin immediately, while exterior redevelopment and tenant build-outs will continue after a future business tenant is selected.
