Moore County Occupancy Tax Increase Boosts Tourism Revenue

The Moore County occupancy tax increase tourism revenue numbers are already showing strong results, as local leaders report significant growth following the recent rate change.

January alone saw a jump of more than 33%, with total collections exceeding $260,000 for the month. Tourism officials say the higher rate will continue to generate consistent growth moving forward.

New Projects and Events Across the Sandhills

The Moore County occupancy tax increase tourism revenue is being reinvested into local projects designed to attract visitors and enhance the community. Funding is already being directed toward upgrades at the Sunrise Theater in Southern Pines.

Additional plans include a new “Garden of Lights” holiday event at Sandhills Community College and a public art campaign across towns like Aberdeen, Carthage, and Pinehurst.

Officials say these efforts are aimed at boosting tourism during slower seasons and creating year-round attractions.

Economic Impact for Moore County Communities

Resorts continue to lead in revenue generation, accounting for more than half of total occupancy tax collections. Short-term rentals and hotels also contribute significantly to the county’s growing tourism economy.

For residents in Moore County and the Sandhills, the increase means more investment in local experiences, infrastructure, and cultural events.
