Historic golf team preps for title-chasing year

The Flyer’s Men’s Golf team eyes making more history after earning the program’s historic fifth-straight National title. They start spring season in less than 2 months. They open up at home on March 11 to host Hocking College in the Battle in the Pines at the Pinewild Country Club. The team will be honored at the halftime game in the Hanger on February 7.

The Flyers men’s basketball team hosts back-to-back pivotal Region 10 contests against Tidewater CC Friday before Saturday’s game against Camp CC. If you’ve never made it to a Flyers game in the Hanger and you’re a basketball fan, you’re missing out on one of the top JUCO programs in the country.

Sandhills’ sand volleyball squad isn’t letting the weather impede on preparation for this season. They have a first home match game on February 18 against Salem College at 2 and 4 pm.

Williams, NC State cruise by Syracuse

In men’s hoops, NC State bested Syracuse 88-68 behind Darrion Williams’ 23 point night. Syracuse struggled offensively shooting 38% from the field and just 50% from the charity stripe. Wake Forrest fell to Pitt in OT action, 80-76 with Myles Colvin leading scorers with 18.

Witchita State shocks East Carolina ladies

In women’s hoops, it was the best offense against the conferences worst offense, but it didn’t go as planned. East Carolina women, the league’s top scoring squad, was stunned by Witchita State. The Shockers defeated ECU ladies 63-54. The contest ended a five-game win streak for ECU. For the UNC Wilmington women, Campbell escaped the Seahawks, 67-61 in OT action.

Mensah settles with former Duke team in undisclosed settlement

Duke’s QB-1 is no longer. Darian Mensah announced his official switch to Miami to be a Cane. This after resolving a legal dispute with Duke that had blocked his transfer. Scheduled for a hearing on Thursday, the two sides reached an undisclosed settlement. Mensah threw for nearly 4,000 yards and 34 touchdowns last season, leading Duke to a surprise ACC title.
