Union Pines splits games, other scores from the Sandhills Scoreboard

In local hoops, Union Pines split contests against its Triton visitors last night. The girls survived a late offensive rally in the final minute and came out on top, 35-31. Union Pines boys fell to the visitors in the nightcap, 90-69.
Overhills earned a par of wins against Hoke County on the road, the girls and boys won 61-44 and 54-49, respectively.
Richmond Senior girls scooped up 42-23 win against Pine Forest and the O’Neal School girls fended off Berean Baptist 39-31.
Southern Lee boys fell to West Johnson, 57-50 but not before the girls earned a dub, 37-24 in the opening game.
Harnett Central boys bested Lee County, 70-66 and neighboring Western Harnett swept South Johnson as the girls earned a 55-47 check in the win column and the boys outworked the opponents, 45-36.

In women’s hoops, ECU took it to Tulsa, 79-48 and sit atop of the AAC at 12-6.
On the ice, Canes with back-to-back losses with last night’s 3-0 rout from the St Louis Blues.

Rockingham Drag donates to Richmond wrestling program

And out of Richmond County, as reported by the Richmond Observer, Rockingham Drag-way presented the Richmond wrestling program with a donation Monday. The funds will be used for tournament costs, mats, uniforms, headgear, etc as well as team meals and other needs.

The small program hosts a home event today against Mid-South opponents Hoke County and Overhills high schools.

Transfer portal woes App State

The transfer portal has been brutal to programs in general, but Appalachian State football is feeling the weight as one of the largest single-program departures with 39. The portal closes this Friday.
The program has had back-to-back losing seasons, with the most current under first-year head coach Dowell Loggains.

We have pro softball coming to Durham. Athletics Unlimited Softball League announced the Bull City will be home to the Carolina Blaze, one of 6 teams that chartered in 2025. They start league play in June.
