A simple act of kindness has grown into a community-wide coat drive in West End.
After seeing coats hanging on a fence near West End Elementary School with a sign that read “Need a coat? Take a coat,” longtime residents Leslie and Bob Rose organized a two-week donation drive to help families stay warm through winter.
New and gently-used winter coats for both children and adults are being accepted through January 19 at Blush Salon in West End. Leslie Rose, a professional seamstress, is even repairing coats with missing buttons or broken zippers.
The donated coats will be placed on the chain-link fence at the school’s baseball field through January 31, allowing anyone in need to take one, free of charge.
