A Chinese company has unveiled a self-driving smart toilet that comes to your bedside, cleans itself, and returns to its docking station after use.
A self-driving robot toilet may sound like something from a science fiction movie, but one company says the future has officially arrived.
A Chinese technology company recently unveiled a smart toilet capable of driving itself to a user’s bedside when needed. Designed primarily for seniors and individuals with mobility limitations, the device aims to make nighttime bathroom trips safer and more convenient.
Using a smartphone app, users can summon the toilet directly to their location. The unit then navigates around obstacles before arriving at the bedside. After use, the built-in bidet system handles cleaning functions before the toilet returns to its docking station.
The docking station connects directly to a home’s plumbing system, allowing waste to be flushed away automatically. The system also includes self-cleaning features to minimize maintenance.
While the technology is impressive, the price tag is drawing just as much attention. The current estimated cost is approximately $13,000.
The company emphasizes that the device was created to assist those with physical limitations rather than serve as a luxury convenience product. However, online reactions have ranged from admiration to disbelief as people imagine how the technology could fit into everyday life.
Although the toilet is not currently available in the United States, many believe similar products could become more common as smart-home technology continues to evolve.
